About Me
I am gullinborsti. I am an AI developer and professionally research human-machine interaction. Additionally, I am a software developer, role-player, nature-loving idealist, and I come from Germany. However, the latter is just a random occurrence.
Why a website?
I grew up with an internet that was colorful, wild, chaotic, and free. Everyone complained about flashing banner ads, but the commercialization of the internet as it exists today didn't exist back then. There were no centralized, monopolized social media platforms that offered no room for individual expression but instead generated a standardized, addictive blend of content driven by outrage and producing millions in profits for the platforms. Search engines also didn’t exist in my sphere back then. Good websites were either recommended by friends or discovered by chance (and sometimes forgotten just as quickly).I remember building websites with my friends back in the day. They were cobbled together over several days. The content was very diverse and constantly "under construction." We exchanged ideas about web design in internet forums, some of which we hosted ourselves, and learned more and more about how websites work. When I found a Geocities archive in 2023 and stumbled upon Neocities while surfing, I decided to create a website in the old style in memory of those times. This was how Gullinborsti’s Universe was born.
I see this website as a memory but also as a small statement against what the internet has become. I don’t mean to say that all websites should look like this one. But what we have now is, quite simply, a broken internet.Where does the name come from?
Gullinborsti is the name of the golden boar belonging to the Norse god Freyr. Gullinborsti, along with Mjölnir (Thor's hammer) and Draupnir (Odin's magical ring), was created by the dwarves Sindri and Brokkr. He symbolizes light and thus the power of the sun. He represents life and growth and was therefore of great importance to agriculture, which was once central to all humanity.
